Cold Front to Bring Snow and Temperature Drop Across Central and Eastern China

2026-01-29

A new cold front is expected to move across central and eastern China from Sunday through Tuesday, bringing widespread rain, snowfall and a noticeable drop in temperatures, according to China’s National Meteorological Center.

Weather forecasts indicate that northern China, southern parts of northeast China, and areas in the northern Huanghuai region will experience light to moderate snowfall during this period. In some regions, mixed precipitation such as sleet is expected, particularly in central Huanghuai and southern Shaanxi.

Freezing rain may also affect parts of Henan and Hubei provinces, increasing the risk of icy road conditions. Meteorological authorities warn that these weather patterns could impact travel and outdoor activities.

Temperatures across affected areas are forecast to fall by 3 to 6 degrees Celsius, with certain locations seeing drops of more than 8 degrees Celsius as the cold air mass moves through.

Officials have advised the public and travelers to remain alert to changing weather conditions, particularly in mountain, ski resort, and high-altitude regions, where snowfall and ice may lead to slippery roads and reduced visibility. Visitors are encouraged to plan travel carefully and follow local safety advisories.
